Getting fancy for swing dancing begins by selecting the right pair of shoes. This is because a shoe can make or break the dance outfit.
There is no rule of thumb to buy swing dance shoes but the most important thing is that you need to feel comfortable wearing them.
These are a few points to be considered while buying shoes for swing dancing.
With or Without Heels:-Although most dancers prefer wearing flat or low heel shoes, it is advisable to buy vintage dance shoes with a heel not more than 5 centimeters. If you are interested to buy heels, make sure the shoes have good quality straps or are closed, or else it may come off while dancing.
Selecting the right sole:-Choosing the right shoe sole is something quite personal and is somehow depends on the type of dance floor. Wooden floors are best for dancing but they are not always available. So the option is limited to only three types - rubber, leather, or suede soles.
The rubber sole is mostly preferred if the floor is slippery and even. It works very well for faster dancing and its extra grip helps a dancer to push forward, away from the floor with much ease. Similarly, Leather soles are the best one if you are going to perform on a wooden floor. The floor creates the right grip and friction although the soles are quite slippery. On the other hand, Suede vintage shoes provide grip better than the leather shoes but less than the rubber ones. These shoes are not to be used during the rainy days as they get damaged by water.
